Comedy Space, originally founded in 2016 as Comedy Hub Houston by Eddy Aviles, is a comedy production company focused on providing a positive space for local comedians to grow and succeed. The company has since evolved into a platform that connects comedians, fans, and industry professionals. By 2022, Comedy Hub Houston was rebranded as Comedy Space, a digital platform designed to help audiences discover comedians they enjoy and know where to see them perform. Comedy Space is dedicated to fostering a safe, inclusive, and supportive community where comedians of all backgrounds can thrive.
Their mission is to empower comedians to grow and live their dreams while delivering outstanding comedy experiences to audiences. They aim to become a national brand, starting in Houston and expanding throughout the south, with a focus on creativity, inclusivity, and authenticity in the comedy world.
What the Client Needed
Comedy Space, an events and talent agency for comedians, needed a dynamic website to showcase upcoming comedy events, allow users to book tickets, and provide an interactive experience. Key requirements included a smooth event calendar, a featured events section with auto-playing videos, and an e-commerce store for merchandise.
While Eventbrite would handle ticket sales initially, the client wanted transactions to occur within a seamless pop-up instead of redirecting users away from the site. Additionally, the website needed to be built with SEO in mind from the start.
How We Approached the Problem
We developed a WordPress-based platform to balance flexibility and scalability. The website features a sleek event calendar, an engaging video-driven featured events section, and a structured e-commerce store.
We integrated Eventbrite transactions into a custom modal pop-up, ensuring users never leave the site. A comedians’ contact form and an interactive map for open mic locations were also added, preparing the platform for future expansion beyond Houston. Our development approach ensured the site was mobile-friendly, SEO-optimized, and easy for the client to manage.
The Impact
Comedy Space now has a high-performing, visually appealing platform that serves both event-goers and comedians. The seamless ticketing experience keeps users engaged, while the built-in SEO structure positions the site for strong online visibility.
